20 JUN: Will climate change hurt the coffee industry? Scientists from London’s Kew Gardens say that coffee drinkers could face poorer-tasting, higher-priced brews, as a warming climate causes the amount of land suitable for coffee production to shrink. The Kew Gardens study predicts that by the end of the century, climate change could cause current coffee growing areas in Ethiopia to dramatically shrink. But scientists say that the problem could be alleviated by relocating coffee-growing areas and combining this with forest conservation and replanting.
